The Mighty Syi'ra or Sirius

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَى 53:49

"That He is the Lord of Syi'ra (Sirius - the Mighty Star)" AlQuran, Al Najm 53:49

Sirius (Syi'ra in Arabic - meaning piercing brightness) is the brightest star in the night sky, intrinsically over 20 times brighter than our own sun and twice as massive. Sirius is approximately 8.7 light years distant. Sirius is called the Dog Star because of its prominence in the constellation of Canis Major, meaning the Big Dog. Sirius is a binary star system with a companion star aptly named Sirius B, which is 10,000 times dimmer. The Sirius system shown above is captured in X-ray light.
